SW Senate inviting applications for new Senate Chair
The South West Clinical Senate is looking to appoint a Chair to replace Dr Vaughan Lewis, our current Chair who is leaving to take up the post of Medical Director for Specialised Services for the South Region. The post is offered on a 2PAs per week basis and is open to all clinicians. The appointment will initially be made for a period of 1 year from the date of appointment.
Established on 1st April 2013, the South West Clinical Senate is responsible for providing independent clinical advice to commissioners on all aspects of clinical care and especially on complex pathways that delivered across multiple health and social care communities. We have secured engagement from over 200 clinicians across the region, have a strong Senate Council of 40 clinical members and a Citizens’ Assembly of national repute. In October 2014 the national Senates took over the role of the National Clinical Assessment Team providing early clinical input into the NHS Assurance framework.
The future role of the Senates is to be strengthened with regional co-ordination and a more substantial role in service reconfiguration. The new Chair will work with chairs from the Thames Valley, Wessex and South East Coast Senates shaping the emergent Senate architecture across the South. This is an exciting opportunity with real involvement in improving experience and outcomes for patients and will suit a clinician with proven ability as a clinical leader and the enthusiasm to drive change.
